Everywhere a project manager turns communications is central to the task. This talk will review the role of the project manager in communication, some key communications tools, as well as some communication tips based on experience.

Bio:
Becky is a 1978 graduate of South Dakota State University with degrees in Mathematics and Commercial Economics. She earned both a Master of Business Administration from the University of Minnesota Duluth and a Master of Project Management from the University of Wisconsin Platteville.

Becky joined IBM in 1978, throughout her career at IBM, she held a variety of jobs ranging from programming, to management, to providing technical and marketing support for IBM Asia Pacific Marketing, to coordinating early product delivery programs in Europe, to providing project and program management for software and hardware development and to providing project management support for a product development team (PDT) with responsibilities for both IBM system software and hardware delivery. She also was on an international assignment living and working in England and Italy from 1988-1993.

Becky retired from IBM in 2009 and joined the Mayo Clinic as a project manager in the research organization providing support for research projects and software tools. In 2013, Becky retired from Mayo and moved from Rochester, Minnesota to Brookings, South Dakota, where in addition to enjoying retirement, she is an adjunct instructor for South Dakota State University Jerome J. Lohr College of Engineering, teaching project management classes as well as has been a Project Management Consultant to the SDSU College of Nursing on Public Health Outreach projects.

Becky has been a certified Project Manager Professional (PMP) since 2000 and is also a published technical author and an award-winning speaker who has presented on both technical and personal development topics. Becky enjoys golfing, theater, reading and watching SDSU athletics. She is passionate about encouraging females to pursue careers in technology and helps coordinate workshops at SDSU to interest girls in engineering as well as provides mentoring support to female engineers. Most of all she enjoys sharing project management expertise with others.
