Project Management: Examples From Industry and Academia

Dr. Joy Lind is currently the Vice President of Academic Affairs at the University of Sioux Falls. Joy transitioned to this position in July 2017, after teaching at USF for nine years in the department of mathematics. Prior to joining the USF faculty in 2008, Joy was employed in Colorado at the companies Avaya and Level 3 Communications as an Operations Research Analyst, Senior IT Project Manager, Process Manager, Business Partner, and Service Level Manager. Joy graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Ph.D. in Mathematics and M.S. in Operations Research and has been a Project Management Professional (P.M.P.) since 2006. Joy has presented at various regional and national mathematics conferences and is published in several well-respected mathematical journals including Discrete Applied Mathematics and Mathematical Programming.

Prior to joining the University of Sioux Falls (USF) faculty, Joy was employed as a Project Manager at the telecommunications company, Avaya, near Denver, Colorado. As a faculty member and now an administrator at USF, Joy has benefited from her project management experience and has led various initiatives at USF.

In this presentation, Joy will describe in detail one of the projects managed at Avaya and also give examples of how project management is used at USF.
